The benefits of growing and consuming your own lion’s mane mushrooms
Lion’s mane mushroom is one of the gourmet mushrooms that has been studied by scientists in laboratory settings. The findings from these studies have suggested that lion’s mane is good for neurohealth. Here is a look at some of those findings from the study Neuronal Health – Can Culinary and Medicinal Mushrooms Help?:
“The culinary mushroom that has been extensively studied for its neurohealth properties is H. erinaceus (Lion’s Mane mushroom). The polysaccharides in an aqueous extract of the Lion’s mane mushroom could induce neuronal differentiation and promote neuronal survival.”
The study continues: “The subjects in the H. erinaceus group took four 250 mg tablets containing 96% of Yamabushitake dry powder three times a day for 16 weeks. Cognitive function scale scores increased with the duration of intake. Laboratory tests showed no adverse effect of H. erinaceus. The study suggested that H. erinaceus is effective in improving mild cognitive impairment.”

How to use our lion's mane mushroom kit
The lion’s mane kit comes ready-to-fruit, which means you can start growing as soon as it arrives in the mail. If you do not want to use it right away, you can place it in the refrigerator where it will be able to remain for 10-14 days before it starts to fruit on its own.
To begin using your lion’s mane kit, place it in the area you plan on growing. You can do it from the comfort of your home, or outside if weather permits. If doing it inside, you will need to place it in a room with some light and the temperature should be between 40-80 degrees F.
You will want to flip the kit over and make some V-shapes throughout the surface of the bag. Make about six holes spaced as evenly as you can all the way around the kit. These holes are where the lion’s mane mushrooms will fruit out of.
Begin to spray the kit two or three times each day so it remains moist. You do not want the kit to dry out. It will take about 10-14 days until the mushrooms are ready to be harvested. The mushrooms are ready to harvest once the spines cascade down towards the fruited body.

Using sawdust spawn, grain spawn, and plug spawn to grow lion’s mane mushrooms
Sawdust spawn is a great option if you want to inoculate and grow lion’s mane outside. If you have a garden then this is a great spawn option for you to inoculate parts of your garden beds or the walking paths through the garden. Hardwood chips, logs, and totems are great mediums for growing these mushrooms outside as well. Plug spawn is another great option if you are specifically trying to grow on logs or totems.
Grain spawn is great for growing lion’s mane indoors on straw, coffee grounds, or supplemented sawdust. The small particle size of millet allows for fast growth onto the inoculated substrate, making it even easier to grow your own tasty mushrooms. Our grain spawn is second generation so you can further expand the mycelium several times if you want to grow even more mushrooms at larger volumes.
All of our lion’s mane mushroom spawn is grown in a sterile lab and produced year-round to ensure you get the highest-quality, fresh mycelium. Now you know where to buy lion’s mane mushroom supplies!
