What do you do to entertain yourself? When someone asks me that question, I simply reply, “I make a variety of tasty appetizers like a taco pull-apart bread, potato fry, and most commonly these crispy mushrooms. And the best part is that I can make them in my home just by using a bread machine, skillet or oven as well. Today I am sharing my fried mushroom recipe. Actually, I like mushrooms whether they are roasted, sautéed or grilled, any of these methods are great for me. But fried mushrooms are my favorite as there is no crispy appetizer to compare it to.

6 Tips to Get the Most From This Fried Mushroom Recipe

  1. It’s better to select the smaller-sized mushrooms to batter ratio. But if you could not manage smaller-sized mushrooms, you can cut the mushrooms in half to make them smaller.
  2. I personally like to go for white button mushrooms as they contain a mild flavor. And because of that, it goes with any kind of sauce you enjoy and these mushrooms also work well with the batter. I also recommend some of the smaller cremini mushrooms as well.
  3. You enjoy the amazing taste of fried mushrooms if you serve them immediately after finishing the cooking. I like to serve the fried mushrooms immediately after they finish cooking. The flavor is amazing once they are freshly cooked. Moreover, these fried mushrooms can also be refrigerated. Simply reheat them when you are ready to eat them. A convection oven works well for reheating.
  4. To make sure that the mushrooms are being cooked evenly, you need to stir them frequently because the mushrooms will float in the oil.
  5. You can also mix some cayenne pepper into the batter for some extra spice if you want.
  6. It is easier to transfer the mushrooms in the oil if you keep the batter close to the oil while frying them.

Ingredients for my fried mushroom recipe:

  • 1 lb small button mushrooms
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • Oil for frying
  • ¾ tsp black pepper
  • 2 ½ tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 cup beer
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of water

Directions for making my fried mushroom recipe:

  • Stir the flour and garlic salt together in a medium bowl. Then add water and egg to it and mix them until smooth.
  • Heat the oil over medium heat in a large deep skillet.
  • Test the heat of the oil by giving a drop of batter. The oil is ready if the batter floats and sizzles to the top.
  • Dip the mushrooms into the batter and then into the hot oil
  • Place four to five mushrooms into the oil at a time to get better cooking.
  • Now cook the mushrooms for three to seven minutes or until they turn golden brown.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the mushrooms from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
Take the whole mushrooms and coat them in flour. Now dip the mushrooms in a batter that you already made with beer, flour, and seasoning. The dipped mushrooms are ready to go straight into the oil. This will take no more than seven minutes or fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy. Fry four or five mushrooms at a time to get better results. Remove them from the oil and give some time to drain. And here, your fried mushrooms are ready to serve. Again, you should go for a lighter colored beer. And if you want a mild-flavored batter then use a darker colored beer. That will let the mushrooms shine. If you want a complex flavored batter then you need to go for a lighter colored ale. My recommendation is to go for a Belgian style wheat ale. You are now ready to enjoy your fried mushrooms! I hope you are able to use this fried mushroom recipe with a myriad of mushroom species. And if you want to share more mushroom recipes here, you are always welcome. I am glad to hear from amazing people like you guys. Article by Alamin Howlader
